I subscribe to Seth Godin‘s Blog and quite frequenly, he offers either an entire post or even a sentence that adds value to my thought process.
In a recent post titled “The flipping point” Seth differentiates the difference between the “tipping” point and the “flipping” point. The tipping point, he states, “is the sum total of many individuals buzzing about something.” Whereas the flipping point is “the outcome of an activated internal conversation.”
This surely relates to business, brand, marketing, etc. but I saw it covering an even more broad territory including, fitness, nutrition and health… a LIFESTYLE if you will
Seth says, “We resist incremental improvement in our offerings and our stories because it just doesn’t seem likely that one good interaction or one tiny alteration can possibly lead to a significant amount of flipping. And we’re right—it won’t. The flipping point (for an individual) is almost always achieved after a consistent series of almost invisible actions that create a brand new whole.
And the reason it’s so difficult? Because you’re operating on faith. You need to invest and apparently overinvest (time and money and effort) until you see the results.”
Does this sound familiar?? Ever tried to accomplish a training goal or health / nutrition goal??? Often times we expect to make big efforts for a big and fast return… when it’s the little things, done well and CONSISTENTLY that evolve into progress over time and hopefully habits. Habits create your lifestyle and in my opinion, habits are when the flipping point has happened in your mind and as a result, your actions to follow.
