*Happening, coming, made, or done quickly, without warning, or unexpectedly
“Suddenly” has recently become my newest mantra and philosophy. A few weeks ago, I was talking with my mom and she relayed a conversation and trigger word that her big brother shared with her (don’t we just love big brothers).
Suddenly.
As soon as she said it, all other thoughts in my head just ceased. It was such an “ah-ha” moment and all I could do was repeat the word to myself and focus on the concept that Suddenly, at any moment, things really can change. Suddenly people, things, or circumstances - can be taken in an instant and Suddenly, at any moment people, things and opportunities may arrive in your path.
This impacted my perspective so much to always remember and appreciate all that is a part of my life because at any moment, something can be taken. On the flip and more positive side… it is also an optimistic reminder that when times feel like you’re just one final punch away from being knocked down, someone or something (big or small) can Suddenly arrive in your path and change things for the better.
The mind is so powerful and Suddenly keeps my head and spirit in the right place. I share this thought with you because it truly helps me to minimize moments of challenge with optimism and appreciate the here and now for what currently exists. Maybe it’ll strike some of you the same.
To keep this thought close in sight, I recently had it permanently scripted on my left arm (in my handwriting) so everyday, I have a personal and visual reminder. In fact, I find it quite exciting to wake up and wonder, what and who does this day hold in store?
I love the perspective this word provides me and when things don’t always go “right” I have Suddenly on my “left.”
Love.
After I saw several various comments about lifting EVERY (or almost every) day (from Nia Shanks’ quote of Dan John’s program to other blogs’ comments about Active Recovery or similar themes), it hit me: The reason I was able to make a recent PR in the wooden block deadlift (where the weights are slightly elevated) was probably because I lifted several extra days that week, but I lifted “lighter than usual,” so as to aid recovery & get stronger -and not over-work myself. — An ‘Aha! Moment’ — I ‘suddenly’ got it, Allie.! (Now, all I have to do it is find the discipline & will power to work in those extra ‘light’ Active recovery sessions each day. LOL)
wonderfully said. <3
